Top 5 Strange University Degrees

Over recent years, investment and government incentive for young people to take their education further has meant that universities and colleges around the world have begun to offer a broader range of Undergraduate and Masters degrees. Whilst enrolment figures are higher than they have ever been, it is fair to say we have also seen the introduction of some very strange degree level courses. Here are my top five.

5. Sports Ministry is offered at Campbell Universitys School of Theology in Kentucky. The undergraduate course offers prospective students the opportunity to major in the subject which involves relationship building, witnessing, and ultimately preparing to teach sport in a Christian environment and under the eyes of God. It is also stipulated that students must complete 18 hours of core Christian studies.

4. At the opposite end of the spectrum MA in Digital Games is available at Liverpool John Moores University in the UK. The course offers the obligatory focus on the changing form and content of games, but also teaches theoretical notions of game play, as well as the cultural and social issues surrounding video games. The university states: We strongly believe that digital games are one of the most significant cultural forms of our time.

3. Tae Kwon Do is also available to pursue as a Masters Degree. At Kyung Hee University in South Korea the course offers to build physical, theoretical, and spiritual knowledge around the subject to such an extent that MA graduates become missionaries of the art form. The course sees many enrolments from international students.

2. Mississippi State University in the US offers a degree course in Floral Management. Of course, graduates arent intended to leave to go and work in the local Interflora. Instead, they become floral display artists, designers for special events, and flower wholesalers, via an in-depth learning of horticulture, design, maintenance, and business.

1. But perhaps the strangest of the recent degrees received is the Doctorate in Philosophy of Ufology gained by Martin Plowman at Melbourne University, Australia. The culture and communication student specialised in the cultural history of UFOs and the philosophies held by those who claim to have been abducted, despite being a sceptic himself. PhDs are awarded for significant new contributions to a field, and Plowman has collated his research into a new book.

Baby Games Help Parents Understand Baby Talk

Whether you are expecting your first, second or third child, there is always something new to learn about babies. Many parents these days are joining the new wave of ‘digital baby information seekers’, and are educating themselves as well as their babies.

As the variety of information available begins to expand, the type of content being developed is including more enhanced imagery and applications; and this is finding its way onto our day to day information devices.

Emergent software applications such as animation TD which is used to create animation tools of 3D characters are increasingly being adopted by game designers to present a much stronger ability to capture detailed gestures and movement of the virtual characters. When used, this software can enhance our viewing experience.

With the inclusion of shading and highlights on the texture of the characters, the finished product can often be as good as a real life. Some sites, for example ‘second life games’ promise their users an enhanced baby experience with an overall visual feel. A good use of props such as milk bottles and rattles, plus a range of skin colours, gestures and sounds can all be easily manipulated to enhance the experience of a virtual baby.

Gaming is allegedly outstripping the movie business and it’s not hard to see why. 70 per cent of Americans across the socio-economic spectrum play some kind of computer or video game; global gaming figures have reached a record high of 217 million. According to Bloomberg the new Xbox Live online video-game service has broken $1 Billion.

In today’s market, similar applications and creative techniques are being adopted in the mobile communications industry. And as long as many of us are able to access such information, our digital learning environment will encompass more than the fixed location environment such as home or office, to a more ‘on the go’ environment.

Just as depicted in real life, online baby games, imitate communications and gestures to help expectant parents understand how their baby will be trying to communicate with them. It is crucial when formulating a strong relationship with a baby to understand what those gestures mean, and current games on the market are now promising a much more fun, interactive and engaging way of learning about these gestures. In addition such baby games could empower parents by providing support and insights into their own relationships with each other.

History Of Puzzle Games

Puzzles have been available for hundreds of years, and computer puzzle video games were available almost the moment pcs were. They’re one of the most simple and also cherished games out there.

Early digital puzzle games became available on the 1st video game consoles. In the 80′s, Q*bert made available a preview of exactly what would grow to be video puzzle games, however the Atari Video Game cube, as well created in the early 80′s, is acknowledged as the first video puzzle game. It was just like the Rubik’s cube, but gamed in two dimensions.

However, the game almost everyone thinks of and that completely changed the pc puzzle game industry is Tetris. It was created in 1985 and obtained wild popularity in 1989 the moment it turned on the Nintendo Game Boy. The game is easy – the gamer moves and slides falling pieces of distinct shapes, trying to make a full row that then vanishes. The gamer loses once the pieces stack to the top of the display. It has since been cloned, imitated, and duplicated in hundreds of ways.

Lemmings, released in 1991, is largely considered one of the greatest puzzle video games ever built. Originally released on the Commodore Amiga, it has since been turned available on nearly all significant video gaming systems and has several sequels. Within the game, gamers must save as much lemmings as possible from certain doom by leading all of them to a secure exit.

Yet another puzzle game which became popular mainly because it arrived freely placed on numerous computer systems is Minesweeper, where the person uncovers numbers over a grid showing how many adjacent mines are present, and also have to clear all un-mined piazzas without triggering a mine.

Presently there are some major categories of video games.

Traditional puzzles made their way straight into computer games. These include video games such as solitaire, which found a big new user base after coming installed on many Windows and also Linux systems, sudoku, crosswords, and also association puzzles.

Hidden object or perhaps covered picture video games require players to discover items that are hidden in a complex image. These video games are one of the most modern types of laptop or computer puzzles.

In the same way, physics puzzles question the player’s understanding of the laws of physics to play. Angry Birds is just one current popular edition of a physics puzzle game.

Facebook games, new iphone 4 games, as well as embedded flash games have all made a fresh habitat for the re-release and progression of brand new puzzle games that can be gamed casually.
